Sunday Gospel 8-31-2014

Matthew 16:21-27
In last week’s Gospel, Peter declares Jesus ‘the Son of the living God’ with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
In today’s Gospel, Peter appears to be acting under his own impulses and Jesus rebukes him with strong language.
Peter, as we all know, redeems himself and goes on to become the rock that Jesus spoke about but not without bearing his own cross.
Jesus calls us to do the same.
