Dear Parishioners:
” On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning while it was still dark”.. John 20:1
The Easter story begins in darkness, in a time of fear, sorrow and despair. The disciples of Jesus were behind locked doors fearing for their lives. That description could very easily describe the world we have been living in for the last two months as the covid-19 pandemic has taken hold. Our normal life is disrupted. Family and friends are isolated and kept apart. Every day we search for some good news. We hope and pray, that we will soon find a vaccine for this disease, and that it be made widely available for everyone who needs it, rich or poor.
When Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter morning, the Risen Christ brought the light of hope into the darkness of despair. Jesus said: “Do not be afraid”. Through closed doors, Jesus entered the place where the disciples were and said to them ” Peace be with you”.
That peace and confidence in Christ encourages us, like the first disciples, to announce and live out the Good News that Christ is alive! In our present situation, we have seen the light of Christ shine out in the devotion and care shown by our health care workers and many other volunteers on the front line, reaching out to help the sick, in the kindness shown by neighbor to neighbor and simple acts of compassion carried out by so many people.
Despite the uncertainty, suffering and grief caused by the pandemic, the Lord is near. We must never give up hope. ” Do not be afraid” Carrying that in our hearts, we ask that God’s grace and mercy uplift us, console us, and encourage us during this extraordinary Easter- an Easter unlike any we’ve known. We are called during this moment to be people of faith..of prayer..of joy..and of courage.
I invite you to view the Easter Mass at CFNtv.org or on optimum channel 29/137. Please check those sites for times and mass locations. I would also like to inform you that tomorrow, Easter Sunday, at 12noon, both St Andrews and QMHR will join parishes throughout our diocese and nation in ringing our church bells, as a sign of unity and hope.
May God bless you for your kindness and be assured of our prayers for you and for your family. Together, we will get through this and once again be able to rejoice and celebrate in the Lord’s house.
Prayerfully Yours,
Fr. Peter, Fr. Manuel and Staff
